The Reported Setup
- Reported Standard Wheel
- 21 × 9 inches, +45 offset
- Reported Standard Tyre
- 265/45R21
- Fitted Wheel
- 20 × 8.5 inches, +25 offset
- Fitted Tyre
- Cooper 255/55R20 Road+Trail
- Standard Nominal Diameter
- 771.9 mm
- Alternate Nominal Diameter
- 788.5 mm
The calculated nominal diameter is about 16.6 mm larger, or roughly 2.2%. Actual dimensions vary with manufacturer, rim width, pressure, load and tread wear.
What the Owner Observed
- No rubbing was noticed in the first week.
- The lower offset produced a visibly wider stance.
- The taller sidewall was chosen for rougher-road protection.
- The owner did not notice extra road noise or a floating sensation during the initial test period.
These are short-term impressions. They do not cover emergency handling, full suspension travel, maximum load, wet braking, long-term wear, range or speedometer accuracy.
Checks before Buying
Read the Tyre Placard
Use the placard on your vehicle as the starting point. Record the original sizes, pressures and ratings.
Confirm Wheel Specifications
Ask the supplier to document diameter, width, offset, bolt pattern, centre bore, seat type and load rating for the E07.
Confirm Tyre Ratings
The size alone is not enough. Check load index, speed rating and the tyre manufacturer’s approved rim-width range.
Check the Whole Movement Envelope
Verify clearance to brakes, suspension, guards and bodywork at steering lock and through suspension travel, including with passengers or cargo.
Check the Rules and Insurance
Australian modification limits vary by jurisdiction and vehicle category. Obtain advice for the registered vehicle, then advise the insurer.
Recalibrate Expectations
A diameter change may affect indicated speed, distance, driver-assistance inputs and energy estimates. Seek qualified advice about any required calibration.
After Installation
- Use the wheel and vehicle manufacturer’s torque procedure.
- Recheck fasteners at the interval specified by the installer.
- Confirm cold tyre pressures for the load.
- Listen and inspect for contact through steering and suspension movement.
- Check the speedometer against a reliable reference.
- Inspect wear across the tread and arrange an alignment if needed.
- Keep the original wheel and tyre specifications with the vehicle records.
